5am flight out of Lisbon

What issues or concerns should we consider when booking a flight that leaves out of Lisbon (returning to the US) at 5am. I'm assuming this would mean I'm at the airport by 2am to check-in, etc. Also when booking a flight that has a connection at a European airport, is a one hour layover adequate for getting to that connecting flight? TIA!

Does the flight go directly to the US? If not, where does it go? This will affect how much time you need for check-in processing. Checked bags involved?

Also when booking a flight that has a connection at a European airport, is a one hour layover adequate for getting to that connecting flight?

Is this a single ticket booking and the airline is doing the 1 hr layover, or are you contemplating 2 separate tickets, giving yourself an hour to make the transfer?

What airport? Some are easier than others.
Connecting from where to where?

This would be a 5am flight leaving Lisbon via the Humberto Delgado Airport returning to the US via a layover in Frankfurt. It's a 90 minute layover in Frankfurt. It's two adults traveling with no checked bags.

No need to get to the airport at 2:00. 3:00 would be plenty of time. You will need to go through passport control in Frankfurt - not Lisbon. That makes Lisbon easier but might make for a bit of a scramble in Frankfurt. If your arrival in Frankfurt is on time, you should be ok. I would never book just one hour within Europe.
