5:00am flight out of Lisbon!

In a moment of insanity I booked a departure flight for 5:00am from Lisbon. The flight goes to Amsterdam and then we connect to Seattle. We are staying at an airbnb downtown. What time should we get to the airport (is it even open at 2:00 or 3:00am?)? Will there be any problem getting a taxi or uber in the middle of the night? Thank you. Donna

I don’t know if the airport ever closes, but according to their website for a flight within the Schengen you should be at the airport 90 minutes before your flight. My experience with early morning flights within the zone has been to arrive 1 hour before scheduled departure. If you’re staying at a hotel, the simplest thing to do is to have them arrange a taxi for you. On my last visit to Lisbon I paid the hotel for a discounted voucher. The trip to the airport from downtown Lisbon takes about 20 minutes.

No problems for a taxi. Second, this is a domestic flight, a solid hour or at most an hour and half at the airport is more than enough.

I've read about all the ultra early 6:00 a.m. flights out of Europe. It's bad enough taking a 10-12 hour flight without getting a net nothing sleep the night before in order to get to the airport on time.
But all of these flights drop you in a large European gateway airport where you sit for another 5-6 hours before a midday flight to North America.
Do yourself a favor in the future, and refuse any flight outgoing before 9:00 a.m. You will still meet up with your outgoing flight home.

Donna,

As the flight is within Europe, I'd suggest being at the airport at least 90 minutes prior to flight time. I had an early flight out of Porto on my visit to Portugal, with a pickup time of about 03:00 as I recall. I asked the front desk staff to pre-book a Taxi for me, and the Taxi arrived before the appointed time. It was very easy, although a most unpleasant time to be travelling.

I’ve done this before. Simply ask your hotel to pre-arrange for a taxi. I’d ask about it upon check in and reconfirm the day before.

I too would be confronted with a 5:00 AM flight out of Lisbon this coming autumn. I am choosing instead to book an open-jaw flight, and will fly into AMS (departures later in the morning) and return home the following day, Delta-KLM-Delta. The option of a later flight departing to AMS and then home the same day leaves me with a layover too short for my comfort.

Yes, extra costs to incur, however, my well-being is worth it. I realize this approach isn't an option for the OP, just illustrating a different solution.

Happy Travels

Has anyone had to arrange a taxi or Uber without using a hotel? I’m staying at an AirBnB and my flight leaves out of Lisbon at 6:45 am.

Thanks!

If there's no recommendation in your guidebook, I'd stop by the tourist office and ask for a suggestion.
