I am looking for the best way to get to the LIS airport at 3:00 am for our 5:00 am flight. The hotel shuttle service does not start until 6:00 am, the Metro is closed at that time (?) so the option would be taxi. Ok with me, please give me some suggestion as to where we should stay? We have four nights in Lisbon to start the vacation, then to Porto and then back to Lisbon via train to fly home. Book a hotel by airport or somewhere close? Please help me sort this out. Thanks so much.

I was staying in Baixa at Brown's Boutique hotel and they arranged a cab for me. At that hour, there's no traffic and the trip took about 20 minutes. I paid the hotel and they gave me a voucher to hand to the driver. Because the hotel arranged the cab, the price was discounted. I found it to be very easy and convenient.

Rick's book says that taxis to cover the 5 miles between the airport and city center only cost €10, so that says to me that you can pretty much stay where you want, if you want one more night with a more "romantic" ambiance. If I stayed closer to the airport, I'd probably just spend the last evening re-packing.

Unlike a lot of other international airports which are usually in the outskirts of the city, Lisbon's is literally in the middle of the city. So it's an easy taxi ride from wherever your hotel is located. But if you feel more comfortable staying at an airport hotel, Hotel Tryp Lisboa Aeroporto, is located on the property.

Our host prearranged a taxi pick-up for 05:30 in the Avinida Liberdade area. Took about 15 minutes, cost €11.

We stayed at a nice hotel across the street from the LIS airport. It was the TRYP Lisbon Aeroporto Hotel, a Wyndham hotel. The hotel was nice and cost about 90 Euros.

Forgot to mention that you can roll your luggage from the hotel to the airport. We made our 5am flight to Amsterdam with not problem.
