30 Hour Flights!? Hmm...

I have a week off in November and was looking for flights only as well as package deals from Boston to Lisbon. Anything under $1,000 seemed to have a flight duration of 30 hours, obviously with a long layover. It's mind blowing. What are "normal" formerly middle class travellers supposed to do, rob a bank?

Not sure where you're looking for flights or if you're particular about which airlines and I don't know your exact dates. Try skyscanner.com - I saw really cheap flights (like around $600) from Boston to Lisbon, one stop each way, 8 1/2 hrs going 9 1/2 hours coming home, those were on SATA airllines. I just picked sample dates in November so maybe your dates are the issue.

Yes, that is a 30+ hour flight if you choose the cheapest option, which is Turkish Airlines and therefore must go by way of Istanbul in both directions. Book your flight and hotel separately, the package deals will force you to take bad flights.

I just did a trial search on the most thorough engine I've seen here, ita matrix. For low $700s on Tuesday 11/10, return Tuesday 11/17, you can get flights of total time of 8 1/2 hours out, 9 1/4 back, connecting both ways in Joao Paolo Airport in Sao Miguel.

You sometimes can't book only two months out and hope for a great fare...have to book earlier. I was surprised that only Turkish Air seems to have a competitive fare ($601, with the stopovers) because November is off-season. Then again, it's only 2 months from now...not 4 or 6.
