Just planning now for 50 year anniversary trip, as we live on the beach in Gulf of FL we would love to divide our time into a beach and city vacation. Where is a good base for 5/6 nights with nice beach and fairly calm water for swimming plus we can rent a car and do day trips to other areas then head to another base for more exploring before ending with 3 nights in Lisbon for flight home? Late June of 2019

The ‘Silver Coast’ área in central Portugal has beaches with calm waters - especially that time of the year. I stayed in São Martinho do Porto for a week, rented a car, and drove all over the area for day trips. It’s a nice town with a very calm bay for swimming. Be aware that the water will be very cold that time of year.
