I'd like to take my Mom to Portugal in June for two weeks.
She's is an active 82 y.o. who can handle walking around all day.
I'm hesitant to drive, but am concerned with taking trains and busses
and dragging our luggage from place to place. I'm considering a tour.
I'd appreciate opinions on this (and tour recommendations.)
Thanks!
Paula
Look at the Rick Steves’ tour. Did it last summer. Not too much luggage dragging and you’ll see a lot of this marvelous country. However, this tour has gotten very popular so you will likely be on a waitlist.
pjblank, I took the 12-day (11-night) Rick Steves Best of Portugal tour this past May, and it was excellent. Mix of Lisbon, Porto and many smaller towns. Mix of group activities and meals, and then ample free time and meals on your own. Excellent tour and local guides. Large and comfortable bus. The details and itinerary are on the Rick Steves web site. I see the June 20 tour is still open, the others in June are wait-listed. I usually find that my free time ends up being my most active time, but you can take that at a slower pace if you want or need too. It’s always good to arrive at the beginning point of the tour at least one day in advance to allow a little buffer for air travel delays and getting over jet lag. In my case, after arrival I spent 2 nights in Sinatra and some extra time in Lisbon. Portugal is great, and generally less heavily touristed than Italy, Spain, Greece and many other countries in Europe.
Thanks! I will definitely look into it.
Another thumbs up for the RS Portugal tour! We did this wonderful tour in Sept. 2016. June weather should be delightful. We highly recommend to arrive a couple days early and take a guided day tour to Sintra and surrounding region. Portugal was one of our most memorable journeys.
