2 nights between Lisbon and Porto, traveling by train

We will be In Portugal in late March. We have two nights in Sintra, then 5 nights in Lisbon, and two free nights before we end up in Porto for the final 4 nights. We have been thinking that we would stay those 2 nights in Coimbra, but I am wondering what other options people might suggest. We will be taking the train between the different cities.
Many thanks!

We are doing two nights in Coimbra on our way up to Porto in March. It looks like an easy trip on the rail line and seems beautiful!

You should include Coimbra and can also use it as a base to visit other areas outside of the city. I know nothing about where the trains go but take a look for a day trip.
The University Library in Coimbra is a must see.
Other options to Coimbra:
Evora
Guimares
Aviero( day trip from Coimbra)

Coimbra is what I suggest too. To get there depart from Lisboa – Oriente station to Coimbra-B (the station where the fast trains run through) taking 1h 45m. To get to Porto you’ll need to depart from the same station.

Coimbra is great and makes the most sense since it's on the main train line between Lisbon and Porto. Tips - [1] The AP trains are more comfortable than the IC trains. [2] Take the train only to Coimbra-B, then take a taxi into town. It's not worth the time and hassle for the connection to Coimbra station. [3] Take the train to Porto-Companha, then take a taxi into town. It's not worth the time and hassle for the connection to Porto-Sao Bento.
