We are 2 couples traveling in late May on an 8 day itinerary in Portugal. We arrive in Porto , stay 2 nights then fast train to Coimbra for a 1 night stay. then we are thinking of renting a car one way from Coimbra to Lisbon (we enjoy the freedom of driving and exploring). We plan on making a 1 night stop along the way (not sure where) before we arrive in Lisbon to return the car at the airport. In Lisbon we be staying 4 nights. So the question is if you where driving from Coimbra to Lisbon and you had 2 full days and 1 night what path would you take and what towns would you consider visiting along the way and where would you stop for the night. I would also welcome an suggestions for two days other then renting a car. Thanks
I would skip renting the car and add the days to Porto, Coimbra or Lisbon. For only two days, I don’t think It would be worth it. And, two nights in Porto or one night in Coimbra isn’t enough either place.
There are some interesting small towns between Coimbra and Lisbon, but not enough to shortchange your other destinations.
If you just want to see a town on the coast for a night along your way I think it makes sense.
This little town is one I plan on staying near this summer.
Azenhas do Mar
I would drive to Nazare spend a good portion of the day there and then make your way down the coast and stay overnight in Azenhas do Mar before heading to Lisbon with a stop off at the most western point, Cabo da Roca the next day.
This is the place we are staying a short walk from Azenhas do Mar
