16 days in Portugal

Planning on a 16-17 day trip with my husband to explore Portugal. Looking for suggestions for our itinerary. Not needing to spend any time in Lisbon (unless needing to fly in/out of there). Appreciate any insights. Thanks

The answer might depend on whether you intend to use public transportation and the time of year you intend to visit.

Popular places are Braga, Guimares, Porto, Coimbra, Tomar, Óbidos, Nazaré, Evora, and of course the southern beach areas.

You can see a lot with a car.

We spent a three nights in Penalva do Castelo at the Parador, Casa de Ínsua. It’s a 1700s mansion with an on-site museum. We found it very relaxing. From it we took a day trip to Viseu and Lamego.

We also visited the Alcobaça and Batalha monasteries, Almoural castle, Fátima, and conimbriga ruins. By the Spanish border is Monsanto. It’s a town built among boulders. Everything seemed to be up or down hill. Very little was level.

Maybe you’ll get some ideas.
