13 nights in Portugal. Help needed !

Hi !
We (2 adults and 2 kids of 5 and 9) will be in Portugal at the end of july/begining august. We have 13 nights.
We have a flight from Barcelona that will arrive at 9:55 in Porto. Here's a quick itinerary that need refining by knowledgeable people !

1) Porto (2 nights)
2) Rent a car in porto then go to Guimaraes (maybe Braga but not sure about that one) Douro Valley (2 nights)
3)Coimbra (2 nights)
4) Obidos (2 nights)
5) Evora (1 night)...we could leave Evora for another trip since it's a bit out of the way.
6) Going to lisbon fromEvora with a stop in Sintra (4 nights)
7) fly back home from lisbon

We know 2 days for Obidos and or Coimbra could be too much (or not !), but we figure we could stay somewhere near and , since we will have a car, go see smal places around those town.

Thanks a lot in advance

Obidos is a very small walled town, if memory serves. I wonder whether you could simply stop there on a drive from Coimbra to Evora and avoid one change of hotels. I think you may wish for one extra night in Porto.

I haven't been to Portugal recently (and have never been to Evora), so do not take these comments as gospel.

Agree that you could just stop in Obidos on your way to Evora. Your children will enjoy walking along the walls and you should enjoy the architecture but a few hours is more than enough time to spend there. Also, while in Coimbra you could visit Conimbriga, ancient Roman ruins. Our granddaughters were about the age your your children when we visited there and they loved walking through the ruins.

With a car you have so many options. And as my kids were those ages on 1 of the trips to Portugal, my thoughts are as follows....

I have yet to visit Braga and Guimarães, but they are on my bucket list so I can't help with them.

Based on my 5 visits to Obidos with different family members, a couple of hours is enough. Coimbra could be done with a full day and night. Just minutes outside of Fatima is an underground cave called Grutas da Moeda which they will love. There is also a dinosaur park (we did have time to visit) nearby: Address:
Monumento Natural das Pegadas da Serra de Aire
Estrada de Fátima
Bairro
2490-216 OURÉM

Alcobaca and Batalha they would like. A beach day in Nazare would be good.

You could use 2 days in Sintra with them and not rush through the sites. Quinta da Regaleira is amazing and worth 3-4 hours. Nearby is an aviation museum called Museu do Ar...my son and I loved it. Cabo do Roca is near Sintra as well and nice to visit at dusk.

Lisbon itsef offers tons of options and too many to list here! For me, Evora was not a big deal or worth the drive unless on the way to or from Spain.

Rick's Portugal guidebook has just about everything you need...Tripadvisor will be another great research tool regarding the kids.

I know more travelers on the forum will have other great ideas. Good luck!

I would definitely add another night to Porto, especially if you want to visit Guimarães or Braga. Coimbra might justify 2 nights but Óbidos definitely does not IMO. As others have said, stopping for 2-3 hours is enough.
And, stopping in Sintra on your way to Lisbon is problematic in that parking is a major issue. I would suggest you consider adding the extra nights (Óbidos) to Lisbon, then daytripping from Lisbon to Sintra. I really like Evora and would much rather stay two nights there than Óbidos.

Hi and thanks to all for those answers !

Somes thoughts:

1) Obidos will be a stop after all. Maybe we will stop there while going to Lisbon.

2) We ethink Evora will be for another trip. It's a bit out of the way and we dont have enough time to see it.

3) About one more night to Porto. We are hesitanat on thjat One. Porto itseld doesn't seem that bis, so maybe a day an a half for Porto only would be enough (or not ?) About Guimares (not sure about Braga) we could do it as a daytrip Frome Porto (anmd add a night in porto like suggested by kathrynkj) or maybe cgo there by car after our 2 nights in Porto. What would be the best ?

4) Thanks Carl about all thoise suggestions !

5) We think about staying 2 places (2-3 nights each) somewhere near Coimbra and around Tomar so we could do daytrip from there (Tomar, Nazare, Batalha, Conimbriga). Since we have a car we are better to saty outside town. Does anyone know a small village, that would be well located to do all those daytrip ?

Thanks once again !
