12 day Portugal tour activity

Hi Everyone

Looking at going on the 12 day tour to portugal . My brother my join us who is older and is concerned about the activity. He is ok with moderate walking, but not strenuous. I know most of Rick's tours say that activity on all tours. Can anyone tell me how strenuous this could be that have done this tour?

Thank you for any input

I found Portugal fairly challenging because it's so hilly, and the walking surfaces tend to be slick even when dry. Most sidewalks tend are 2" stone squares, so while fairly flat, there are lots of edges. I tend to be klutzy, though.

I just returned from the 12 day Portugal tour. There was a lot of walking on uneven surfaces as well as climbing stairs in buildings and walking up and down hills. Some areas were slippery, even in dry weather. There is some walking on a cork farm, near the beach at Nazare, and uphills at a vineyard.

I just finished this tour and I am a very active 73 year old. I would say walking the hills and climbing lots of stone stairs (especially the first two days in Lisbon) puts this more toward the strenuous end of the scale and I would not recommend it for a “moderate” walker. My friend and I easily averaged over 10,000 steps every day and some over 15,000.
