searching Best Porto Hotels for Oct. 2025

Searching for best Euro 150 - 300 mid - ? range hotel for one pre and one post night for our Douro River Cruise; Oct. 5 - 12, 2025. Walking couple 69 & 73, we usually do well in City Centers where we can walk to restaurants, etc. Is it best to choose hotels with breakfast? We plan to UBER from Airport and to Cruise port, which looks about 6 mi. away. Also, what are best sites to see/experience with our limited time of one afternoon, evening & morning before; and one full day after the cruise? TIA and Happy Travels! C & S

We loved this B & B in Porto, very close to the cathedral, Sao Bento Train station, and a busy pedestrian street with restaurants and a lot of activity. Reasonably priced and wonderful included breakfast. Kind and helpful hosts. https://www.natravessa.com/

We used the Rick Steves guidebook for our sightseeing. We did the walk and visited many churches, including the cathedral. We also crossed the river to the port houses, though we didn't visit any since we had just been on the Douro River.

We just spent 4 nights at the Pestana A Brasileira and we loved it. Classy and charming building and a great location. Their breakfast buffet had everything

Hello CJ, I am also travelling to Porto for first time in early Oct. 2025 for river cruise, and have the same ideas as you for our stay - want to be in an area where we can walk to restaurants, etc. So many neighborhoods to choose from, it's overwhelming to target a place to stay. I am 65 yo woman travelling with my sister. What hotel did you end up booking?

We just stayed 3 nights at Porto's Condes des Azevedo Palace hotel, which we booked easily online. Spacious apartments. Excellent English-speaking staff who will take care of you. Only caveat is there is a small flight of steps in the front entrance (porter will help you unload taxi). But you can walk easily to restaurants and sights as it's smack in the middle of historic center. Directly facing the hotel, across the street, is Igreja de Santa Clara. 4 euros to enter, you will be amazed - a recently-restored interior that looks like an explosion of gold baroque. Please enjoy your trip wherever you choose to stay! Bon voyage.
