We are a party of 8 that will be in Lisbon for 3 nights before a cruise the end of March. Looking for recommendations on places to eat and what to do. I think we want to go to Sintra one day. has anyone done a food and wine tour?

We did the Eating Europe Lisbon in 2023. The guide, Lisbon born, did a brief history of the city and we walked to several different neighborhoods and experienced a variety of foods. I thought it was very interesting and a lot of fun.
We also did Eating Europe in Lisbon in 2023, and it was one of the best food tours we'd ever taken. Great guide, a wide variety of foods and beverages, and a private fado performance!
The staff were evidently trying out a range of ideas, and the result was fantastic. YMMV, of course, but I would book that one again in a heartbeat.
Besides Sintra, consider Belem which is very interesting and has a lot to do. Also very pretty.
We were just in Lisbon this past October. The 3 highlights for us were:
Lisbon Walks tour called Lisbon City of Spies. Fabulous, especially if you like WWII history.
Cooking Lisbon - Pastel de Natal cooking class. It started early, 9:30 and was fun. Not long either, we still had the rest of the day to explore. You could do a private class for your 8.
Tour of Belem - early morning, it was just the 4 of us so you could also ask for a private tour. It was 2 hours, just the right amount of time, at least for us.
We didn’t find the food that great, just ok, except for the cod and octopus. Maybe we should have done a food tour, it might have helped us make better choices.
I really enjoyed TimeOut Market Lisboa, it's a former market warehouse that has been transformed into a collection of representatives of the best restaurants, bars and food shops that Lisbon has to offer. In the centre are long communal tables surrounded on all sides by the vendors. We sampled some amazing charcuterie and wine and fantastic seafood.
It's a very popular and buzzing place and a perfect introduction to food in Lisbon www.timeoutmarket.com/lisboa/en/concept/
Thank you for all the great ideas!
Belem is a section of Lisbon and a definite must see. Sintra is worth a half day too.
Lisbon Riders does a great day trip tour to Sintra in a van for 8 so with your party you basically have a private tour.
A few comments based on two visits to Lisbon - tha latest in June 2024.
TimeOut Market was too noisy for us. We left again without eating as we had planned.
The Oceanarium is amazing. We visited it on both our visits. After the visit we took the Cablecar along the coast. In the other end is a number of restaurants where we had lunch. Then walked to the station for the trip back to our appartment.
I loved Sintra but my favorite thing was the Oceanarium.
I will second the Time Out Market. Good chance to try a variety of dishes, good if you have some people with limited or picky diets. It does get crowded, but great for lunch or drinks and snacks.
If you really like seafood, find a Cervejaria. Literally a beer hall, but most are full restaurants serving heaps of seafood, heavy on shellfish. Cervejaria Ramiro is probably the most famous, reservations required. Being fresh seafood, it is not cheap, figure 50 euro per person or more, but everything is super fresh. Still dream of the garlic shrimp, the clams, the huge tiger prawns, the scarlet shrimp, you get the idea.
Also do some searching for Lisbon food blogs. We found a couple really hole in the wall, cash only, restaurants serving cheap, hearty plates.
Lisbon was recently named "Europe's Best Culinary Destination", whatever that means, but there are many great restaurants ranging from small and casual to high fine dining.
We never had a bad meal in Lisbon, or anywhere else in Portugal.
On our first night in Lisbon, we were so tired we just plopped down at one of those restaurants that we're always warned about - you know: right in the middle of the most touristy street, servers urging you to sit down, colorful multi-language menus ...
I chatted with our server a bit, told him we had just arrived, and asked what was really good, what would he eat? He thought for a few seconds, asked if we liked seafood, and pointed to a dish on the menu, one of those tureens teeming with seafood.
It was delicious, the wine was excellent, and we had a wonderful dinner.
The Gulbenkian Collection is astounding.
