In his excellent newly released edition of the Portugal guidebook, Rick added Tomar as a destination. The hotels suggested were limited, so I thought I would pass along a new hotel that my daughter and I randomly discovered that was very reasonably priced and the favorite of our trip. Opened in August 2018, the Thomar Boutique Hotel is just east of the Old Bridge. It's an easy walk to the historic town square, the castle, and the Convent of Christ. Our stay included a welcoming glass of port and a nice breakfast buffet the next morning. The rooftop bar had an amazing view of the castle. Add the welcoming and friendly staff, it made for a perfect stay. I highly recommend it.

Maybe so, but the hotel mentioned has hundreds of positive reviews on Booking.com, apparently all since the fall of 2018.

Very glad Tomar has been added to guidebook. Immense and grand Convent of Christ/castle complex with cloisters are a must see, and take several hours to fully explore. We enjoyed day trip from Nazare in May 2019, going first to this World Heritage sight in Tomar and then stopping back by the other World Heritage sites in Betalha and Alcobaca.
