Evora and Environs

First, we LOVED Portugal and woulds highly recommend it - lovely peopler, wonderful food, history around every corner.

In Evora, we stayed at the Albergaria do Calvario, a lovely family-run hotel just inside the walls. The staff was helpful, the rooms comfortable, parking provided (we just left the car and walked everywhere in the town) and breakfast simply sumptuous. Highly recommended!

I wasn't certain how easy it would be to do day trips from the Albergaria do Calvario (it would have been very easy but I didn't know it!, so we stayed at a second hotel, outside Evora, in the countryside - the Convento do Espinheiro - so we could wander. We loved it! It's a converted convent, with huge rooms, parquet floors, canopy beds - right out of Ferdinand and Isabella - but with every convenience you could imagine. Lovely staff, absolutely immaculate, indoor and outdoor pools and fabulous restaurant. Again - highly recommended!

We too stayed at Albergaria do Calvario a few weeks ago. I highly recommend it. Loved parking the car and walking everywhere. The service could not have been better. I thought it was an excellent value.
