Coimbra

Hi. Can someone recommend a hotel for 2 nights in Coimbra in December? Thanks.

Last month, we enjoyed a two-night stay at Sapientia Hotel. The hotel is an amazing location, one-block from the main university square, library, etc. A fairly new hotel — modern and stylish, great breakfast. Close proximity to town. (Be aware that parking can be difficult in this location, however. If you are driving a car, consider off-site parking.)

Just wondering: Did you find this neighborhood to be pretty quiet? Or is this a ‘party’ area because of the proximity to the University?

We loved our stay at the Quinta de las Lagrimas just across the river from the main part of Coimbra. Highly recommend it!

Susan — re: Sapientia Boutique Hotel, we found the location to be very quiet because the main square isn’t so much where students hang out, but the square for historic buildings that close after touring hours. Additionally, Coimbra is built on very hilly, steep terrain, so the hotel is perched on a hill and not on a busy street. (In fact, it is situated on a very quiet, one-way street which results in very little street noise , but accounts for limited parking.) We really enjoyed the hotel location, the overall vibe — modern, stylish, clean and bright, particularly after touring historic Coimbra and the sites. We would choose the hotel again.
