Anyone take a Zakopane day tour with Krakow Urban Tours? Rick Steves recommends this tour company in his book. Also, any thoughts on going to Zakopane in early October?
Thanks.
I can't comment on Krakow Urban Tours, but I did a private tour to Zakopane and Orava Castle in Slovakia from Krakow. It was cool, but, man, that 4-hour round trip to Zakopane from Krakow was pretty brutal. The tour time listed for your tour is 4-6 hours. Is a 4-hour round trip worth 4-6 hours of Zakopane?
We were in Zakopane and the cog railway Friday. Not what I expected. Hundreds of tourists on top where the cog train stops and hundreds of tourists into the main walkway into the city. Stalls selling food and junk souvenirs. Cheap Disneyland. Our tour with stops from Krakow one-way was @2 hours. Friday was a holiday and maybe that had something to do with it. We drove on parts of a new highway too. Overall about 10 hours. We did a Oscypek cheese stop, Chochołów wooden houses stop and Herz-Jesu-Kapelle. This was thru viator. Driving the small roads and seeing the houses new and old was a good part of the trip.
