Since my last post, I'm back to 12 nights in Poland. I've been hearing so much on this forum about Wroclaw that I'm reconsidering my original itinerary. I've done my first draft plan using the RS guide as always- I've never gone wrong with the guide books travelling independently or on a RS tour. However, Wroclaw doesn't make the book. I'm wondering if that's because of it's location rather than the place itself. If I skip Torun, I could fit in a 2 day stop in Wroclaw if I eliminated a night elsewhere. I'm thinking Gdansk to Warsaw, on to Wroclaw and finishing with 4 nights in Krakow? Thoughts?
With your background in Soviet/Russian history, I am really, really reluctant to suggest you reduce your planned time in Krakow, Warsaw and Gdansk. All of those cities have multiple interesting sights related to Cold War history, and your time allocations are already a lot shorter than mine were. (I'm a retiree and can poke along if I want to, but I am an active traveler; I don't spend time dawdling in cafes.)
It's not that I didn't like Wroclaw, but in building itineraries, you have to draw the line somewhere. For example, I'm confident you'd find Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius very interesting, but I'm certainly not going to suggest you include them on this trip.
