Planning a fall trip to Poland. Want to visit at least one natural area, preferably with mountains. Am wondering what folks think about, say, Tatras vs. Karkonosze, as well as thoughts about the best park that has trees and views. We are experienced hikers in decent (if aging:) shape who do not do the types of hikes that need special equipment. Looking for beautiful views that aren't dangerous to get to. Appreciate any help you can give.
I would definitely recommend Zakopane and the Tatras over Karkonsze. Great views can be had doing the cable car and hiking back down or hiking out and back along the top and taking the cable car back down. There is the hike to the top of the highest mountain in Poland there, but I would not recommend it as a casual endeavor. The other popular hikes involves hikes to the mountain lakes there. Moskie lake you can take a short cut by riding one of the horse carts to the lake and hike around the lake or up a pass from there.
Keep in mind Zakopane is the most popular in country vacation place for Poles so it will be very crowded in the fall. It was the most crowded place we went to in our 6 week trip in Poland. Zakopane also offers the hot springs resorts experience there are 5-6 different ones, we would go to a different one each night to soak and relax.
