Where can I cut my itinerary?

We were meant to be spending 12 nights in Poland in July, but we are going to be delayed in Germany for an extra day earlier in our trip. Our return flight from Krakow is booked, so we are forced to cut one night from our Poland itinerary. We are flying from Germany to Gdansk via Warsaw. The plan was to sleep in Gdansk (4 nights,) Torun (1 night,) Warsaw (3,) and Krakow (4.) Which city would be a good place to cut one night? We're firm on Krakow.

I'm just hearing about Wroclaw as I look at other posts. Would it be worth changing my itinerary to include a stop there? 11 nights is very limiting!

Thanks.

Without knowing what sort of things you want to see and do, it's really impossible to suggest what might be the least painful place to cut.

Krakow is lovely (so is Gdansk, though it is heavily rebuilt in the old style), but it has fewer large museums than Warsaw and Gdansk. How do you feel about art museums and historical museums, many of them focusing on the 20th century?

Warsaw is a big, busy city, but it is less touristy than Krakow and Gdansk. How well do you tolerate an environment full of tourists?

The climate-summary charts in the Wikipedia entries for Gdansk and Krakow indicate that Gdansk is typically a few degree cooler and also slightly less rainy in July.

Could you leave Gdansk early in the morning and take the train to Torun, explore Torun during the day, and then take a late train to Warsaw? I was there in December 2024 and arrived early in Torun and then stayed the night and left early the next day. We didn't see too much more after dinner so would have been fine taking a late train to our next destination and not staying the night. I liked Wroclaw but with your time there, it's probably too much to do.

Hi, Kerri! Your proposed itinerary seems essentially to be following the RS Best of Poland tour. Having taken that tour last year, I would say it’s a good itinerary. In response to your query, if I had to cut a day from your planned route, I would cut out Torun. While an interesting and enjoyable city, I wasn’t overwhelmed by it. If I had to cut something from the tour,, that would be my suggestion. We got there late afternoon, and left early the next morning. That seemed like plenty of time to see the sites.

On the other hand, you do not mention a stop at Malbork. That is between Gdansk and Warsaw. I found the visit there to be fascinating and most enjoyable, (Yeah, I find old castles fascinating.). You might be able to do that en route from Gdansk to Warsaw. I’m not sure, but worth looking into. If I had to choose between Torun or Malbork, I would definitely opt for Malbork.

I agree, don’t cut your time in Krakow. Wonderful city.

I visited Wroclaw, tho it is not a part of the RS tour. I enjoyed it immensely. With your time limited, I am not sure you could fit it in. And with your flight being from Krakow, you would most likely go from Krakow up to Wroclaw and then back to Krakow. Seems to me it would be too rushed to be worthwhile.
