Weather & Dress for Last Two Weeks in September.

Hi, we’re going on a Rick Steve’s Poland tour the last two weeks in September. I’ve been checking typical weather sites which state the weather can range from 50s-60sF..This seems a bit cool to me. Some writers state the weather changes in late September and others claim the weather is glorious- I imagine it can be any of those things.

Just asking for clothing suggestions if anyone who has been on this tour can offer suggestions. I’ve been to northern Germany at that time and the weather wasn’t cold or rainy with the occasional cold/dreary day. Is the weather in Poland that much different than in northern Germany?
Thank you!

We were in Poland a couple years ago at about the same time. It may have been earlier in September. It was unseasonably cool. It was during COVID and we were a little chilly dining outside, but made due. I have some Jambu black mary jane type shoes that are meant to be worn without socks. I ended up buying some black socks to wear. It was sunny and not particularly breezy, but it was quite cool. Layers would be my suggestion

I was in Gdansk the first week of April - also a shoulder season - the weather was all over the place, overcast, damp and chilly with showers the day I arrived, and then balmy a few days later.

Keep in mind that Gdansk, situated on the Baltic, may have a different climate from what you'll experience farther south in Warsaw and Krakow. So I would suggest planning for anything, with plenty of options for layers and rain. I always travel wearing waterproof shoes, which also came in handy when visiting Auschwitz on a rainy day the following week.

Hopefully you've added time before and after the tour, as there is so much to see.

Thank you all for your comments. I very much appreciate it. I will be traveling in a carryon suitcase and personal item bag so packing strategically is in order. Looks like layers , a rain jacket, and close-toed shoes will be on order. Thanks again for commenting.

TravelMom and Diane, looks like we'll miss you guys by a few days as we depart September 15. Looking forward to both of your trip reports.

A quick check indicates highs around 75-80 and lows near 60.

Hi,
The weather in Poland is different from the weather in Northern Germany, because it rains less than in Hamburg, for example ;)
Well, the beginning of September is very hot! We have more than 30 degrees during the day in Poland and also in Berlin, where I am answering from right now! Cooler evenings.
Normally in September in Poland it should be between 17 and 22 degrees Celsius.

What the weather will be like in the second half of the month - hard to predict. But there are some truths:
- Mornings and evenings will be chilly. Bring something warm.
- Rain is expected, so take raincoats.
- If you are going to the sea or the mountains - take a light winter hat. It can come in handy and weighs almost nothing.

If you're staying in a larger city for a few days, you can use the public laundries, which are becoming increasingly popular.

I hope this helps.
Best,
Tomasz

In Warsaw I did laundry at a Speedqueen 24, near the Chopin B&B - clean, easy, menus on the kiosk in English, takes credit cards...

I brought a quilted barn jacket and needed it sometimes, but when the sun was out mid afternoon a warm sweater was enough.

It's almost impossible to forecast the weather during the second part of September. You'd better take some warm clothes with you, umbrellas and caps.
