Warsaw. Worth seeing, or skip & head to Torun?

Just browsed RS chapter on Warsaw & have concluded it’s a big city with sites to see but only if you skip Torun or other sites to make it happen. My gut says, who has time..? Anyone want to sell me on Warsaw..?

Where you go probably depends on your interest, but we just spent 5 days in Warsaw (one day was a day trip to Treblinka). So can't defend a visit unless I know what you like to do when you travel. We found the city very interesting especially considering that most of the city was rebuilt after being destroyed during the war. Museums were good as well. We slow travel and are not in a rush, so I probably would not recommend 5 days to someone with more limited time. In contrast, while we found Torun lovely, we spent one full day (2 nights) and that was enough for us.

Thank you for your input. I didn’t mean to sound so down on Warsaw. But it’s true despite some version of slow travel there is never enough time! The decisions we have to make to edit while traveling are very tough! We were in Gorlitz & realized there was a subcamp I’d never heard of called Gross Rosen directly in our path. I really had an urge to go, but It would have thrown off our arrival time & had us driving in the dark. I find my self drawn to the concentration camps because I believe it’s important to face and acknowledge these atrocities in the name of never forgetting & never again.. but some of us do so more than others.

We are driving from Gdansk to Krakow with a fairly open schedule. Warsaw it is on the way, so my preference is to at least stop & get a feel for the place if not stay a night. Thx again.

If you have thoughts to share on Treblinka or other camps you’ve visited, please share them..thx!

Warsaw is a major cosmopolitan city with a lot of history, and all the normal attractions of major cosmopolitan cities. If you're interested in the Holocaust, then the Museum of the History of Jews in Poland and the memorials to the Ghetto uprising might be of interest.

Not sure if outside blogs can be shared, this is non-commercial, no financial gain, just our trip reports for friends and family, here is ours for Warsaw.

The most compelling stop for us was this tiny Jewish Historical Museum.

Just walking through the city, gaining an understanding what Warsaw went through, seeing the memorials throughout the city and the effort to rebuild the city was amazing.
Treblinka is small and does not require a lot of time as there is very little information provided and the museum is closed.

Last June I did a Gate1 tour of Poland and I stayed for 3 days ahead of the tour start in Warsaw. I enjoy history, museums and striking architecture. The time was enough to see the sights.

I liked my time in Warsaw. The modern public transportation was easy to navigate. I enjoyed my visits to the top of the Palace of Culture and Science (aka Stalin Building), the many memorials throughout the city, the Royal Castle and the Corpenricus Museum.

It is said that 98% of the City was destroyed from WW2 and the Soviet occupation. Yet, using original materials and methods was an ingenious way to rebuild the City.

IMHO, Torun was a quaint town, but Warsaw offered more for me to see.

Warsaw is a big city with some lovely neighbourhoods. The public memorials are marvellous. My favourites was the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes where Willy Brandt issued a formal apology and sank to his knees. Chopin is celebrated in many ways- so if you love classical music you can find lots of reasonably priced recitals.
