I am having trouble finding a good walking tour in Warsaw. I will be there in late June of 2015. I found freewalkingtour.com/warsaw which advertises a tour of Old Town and a tour of Jewish Warsaw. Has anyone been on one of these tours? If so, what did you think of them? Am I better off finding a paid tour?
With some companies, the guide leading your "free" tour pays a boss for each person present at the start of the tour. If you don't tip, they lose money. See this article on Rick's blog. The text below is from the upcoming (June) edition of Rick Steves' Eastern Europe:
Each year, new companies crop up offering walking tours in Warsaw. These tend to have one of two approaches: A "free" tour of the main sights (with generous tipping expected); or communism-themed tours, often with a ride to a gloomy apartment-block area for a taste of the Red old days. None of these companies are firmly established, so survey the latest options, do some homework (check online reviews), and pick one that suits your interests. The TI and most hotels have brochures.
Very informative. Thanks, Laura.
