Use tap to pay credit card in Poland.

Can I use a tap to pay credit card in Poland, without a PIN number. My credit card PIN is only used for cash advance transactions, which I am not interested in doing.

I don't remember how much tapping (vs. inserting) I did during a fairly lengthy trip to Poland in 2018, but I had only one issue: I was unable to buy a city transit ticket from a machine out on the sidewalk in Warsaw. As I recall, there was a PIN prompt that halted the transaction. That problem may have been eliminated by now. I don't believe I used city transit anywhere else.

Offers to conduct transactions in dollars (dynamic currency conversion, which you do not want) were prevalent at the time of my visit; stay on your toes when paying for things to be sure you don't end up lining the pockets of hotel owners, restaurateurs, shopkeepers and museums.

Contactless cards have been in use in Poland for about 20 years now, so yes, you can use them everywhere.

The ticket machine situation is strange and may have been some card terminal malfunction. It does happen sometimes and then you have to insert the card and use the chip&pin functionality instead. 2018 was before they tightened the security rules - contactless transactions were truly PIN-free back then. Nowadays you have to enter PIN every 5-6 transactions even if they do not exceed the limit of 100PLN but I believe this only applies to cards issued in Poland, otherwise, limits and whether you have to enter PIN or not, is up to your bank.

We were in Krakow two weeks ago during an RS tour and used tap to pay credit cards everywhere (Apple Pay on our phones) and were never prompted for a pin. And yes, as another poster suggested, you will be asked about the currency on the credit card terminal. Always choose the local currency, zloty. I think that way your credit card company does the exchange calculation, not the merchant. We didn’t purchase transit tickets, because they were provided by our tour guide, so can’t comment on that.
