Uber or Free Now

We will be taking a couple of ubers or free now when we arrive at train stations if they are too far from our airbnb. Some we can walk, but not into lugging stuff if it is raining. We are going next week so weather will be changeable. I know the price looks pretty cheap for short rides, but was wondering if anyone had a preference over ride shares? We will be in Gdansk, Warsaw and Wroclaw. Thanks all.

I've used Uber every time I was in Poland and it works great, never heard of Free Now. After the Russian invasion of Ukraine last year, many Uber drivers you now meet are Ukrainian (some of them refugees) and Uber Poland also allows you to donate a portion of your fare to charitable organizations helping Ukrainians.

We noticed a lot of Ukranian drivers in Krakow back in 2018. Be sure to have your destination written on a piece of paper as their English (and my Polish) is not great.

Uber allows you to set the destination via the app.

I used Uber quite a bit in Warsaw and a few times in Krakow. Worked well.

In Wroclaw, I used a regular taxi outside the train station (it’s kinda far from the city center) and had my hotel call a taxi for me for my return, so don’t have experience there. And I just walked Gdansk, other than an Uber from the airport to my apartment (but that worked just fine).

What I liked about Uber was that my destination was already inputted so I didn’t have to worry about language - because I found Uber drivers from many countries - except Poland. (Not that I speak any Polish.) I will also say it was pretty fun to try to talk to them. Sometimes they had a few words of English, but sometimes we both pulled out Google Translate. However, watch carefully for “meeting place”. Sometimes I had to walk just a bit, due to driveable streets. Once I learned to look for that (my first ride in Warsaw), it worked well (and I only encountered it 2 or 3 times).

When you arrive at the Warsaw train station, there is an organized place for taxis. Follow the exit sign for taxis and take the next one in line. It will be easier than Uber.

I had Free Now ready but was familiar with Uber and it worked just fine.

Thanks everyone. I will be using mostly uber if distance is more than 15 min walk to airbnb from train. I am guessing a 5 min ride and from what I can figure about $5, correct? Plus tip. 😊
