Travelling from Warsaw

Hi, I am travelling to Warsaw in July for a concert with my sons age 11 and 17. We have got some great tips for places to visit from this forum for our few days in Warsaw.

We have a couple of days before Warsaw and after Warsaw to travel to different places.
One of the boys likes the idea of a sleeper train. We are flying in and out of Ireland so lots of choices of flights.

The 17 year old has already visited Auschwitz with school and around that area so don’t want to travel to there.
I am getting totally lost in researching trains, buses, planes etc.
has anyone any personal recommendations on other places we could visit? Would ideally like to visit one other place in Poland, maybe Wroclaw? And another country or 2 also.
Thank you from a very stressed and confused mum.

Krakow and Gdansk are both great cities. The World War II Museum in Gdansk should captivate your sons, and the old town is scenic and fun.

Hello to beautiful Ireland!

One idea is to take a sleeper train -- if one is available -- between Warsaw and Budapest, a beautiful city to explore. I took this exact route in 2015, but it wasn't a sleeper train. To avoid the Tatra Mountains, my train went west across a good deal of Poland into eastern Czechia, then western Slovakia and finally Hungary.

Another idea is to go hiking in Zakopane, which is in the Polish highlands. Teenage boys are energetic. There are a lot of outdoor activities in the Tatras. You could also cross into Slovakia and use it as a base to explore the Tatras. I found the Tatras more picturesque in Slovakia.

Again, best regards to Ireland from a five-time visitor.

Definitely Gdańsk. Very walkable, interesting history, great food.

We are planning a trip to Poland next summer, and in planning so far we've found about 1000 things to do and see, including Wroclaw. There are sleeper trains in Poland, so staying in country is also an option while still enjoying that experience. Just google "sleeper trains in Poland" for details. I didn't go any further than googling, so I don't know any details. Failing a decision to stay in Poland, I'd offer another vote for Budapest or perhaps Berlin. Both are great cities. Depending on your and your sons; interests, either would be a good choice. Seat61.com is an excellent resource for all things train travel in Europe.
