What is the best way to get from Kraków to Zittau or Gorlitz in May?
Thank you! I guess car rental is too costly.
Check and see what CK SHUTTLE would charge.
Last year we found company which offer transfers from Krakow to Czech and Slovakia. we used them on transfer from Krakow to Dreseden. Our driver Lukas speaks very good english and was helful. Contact [email protected]
Looks like a car rental for a couple days would be about $800-$1000. And the closest drop off for Hertz is Dresden. Maybe we'll take a cheap flight to Berlin and then do a day trip by train to Gorlitz.
Phil, I guess you are right. So, maybe train from Kraków to Gorlitz, stay two nights and on by train to Berlin...or fly from Kraków to Berlin and immediately take train to Gorlitz for two nights and then back to Berlin. Our return flight is from Berlin.
Hahaha. It was my brilliant idea. 😉 I'm just trying to consider all the alternatives. I think we would like to spend two nights there. Take the morning train from Kraków, and have part of the travel day plus another full day to explore. We'll then have three nights in Berlin (two full and one half day) before our flight home.
But I like your suggestion, too, Phil. It would allow about a day in Gorlitz. It's a question of which city in which we would like to spend those last precious days. Both have lots to offer. In this two week trip we'll be starting in Budapest, then Kraków, ending in Berlin. We usually like to drive so as to see the smaller towns but that seems difficult here. We'll be taking the bus, I think from Budapest to Kraków.
Hi,
How much time do you have? I took the train from Krakow going back to Berlin, a 10+ hrs ride. The train stops at Cottbus, the first stop on the German side. (passport checks were done there) You could transfer at Cottbus to Görlitz. Depending on your time factor, you could see the Spreewald area towns like Lübbenau, not very far from Cottbus, if you stay a day or two.
Bolesławiec and Żagań are great travel points in the vicinity of Gorlitz.
The train from Wroclaw to Goerlitz (and on to Dresden) is cancelled from 01 March. You can still travel to Zgorzelec, on the Polish side of the border, but you'd then need to take a taxi or bus across the river to Goerlitz.
Another poster mentions the train via Cottbus. This train was cancelled in December, so is no longer an option.
