Any suggestions for travel from Berlin to Gdansk? Looks like there are no direct flights and train travel takes at least 24 hours. Thank you!
It's a bit faster than 6 hours (5:50 or so) by direct train.
Thank you! I found conflicting information regarding train travel so I appreciate receiving confirmation that the 6 hour duration is accurate.
I'm not sure when you are traveling, but when I just did a dummy search for a train from Berlin to Gdansk, using Deutsche Bahn, I came up with train routes that are only 6 hours.
Try it for yourself. Go to https://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query2.exe/en, key in Berlin Hbf as departure point, then Gdansk as arrival, then key in your date and approximate time of departure. I just did it for October 28 at 8 am. Keep in mind that you can only book so far ahead so if your journey is next spring, you won't be able to book anything. But you can still get an idea of the routes and times through dummy searches like I did.
Thanks so much!!
Susan
I am considering the same route. I found one direct train from Berlin to Gdańsk. Departs 12:52 and arrives in Gdańsk 18:23. Tickets are not yet on sale for a May departure.
I used the DB app for checking lots of European routes.
When are you looking to travel? The schedules may not be out yet.
I'll be traveling Tuesday, May 28th.
You can go via Warsaw or take the northern route. The Mrs and I did exactly that, take the northern route which required transferring twice, once in Germany after departing from Berlin and the other time in Poland. The transfer times were not too long, ca 30 mins. max.
All in all the northern route going along the Baltic took 9 hours or so, arr. ca, 4 PM In Gdansk. This was in the summer.
Super interesting and captivating re: seeing landscape as you are going through that part of Poland, what was the former Hinterpommern.
You may want to stay a night en route to Gdansk. We spent a night in Torun and Poznan. They were lovely with lots to do. Nice to see a couple smaller cities.
