Train ticketing through pkp intercity

I booked my first ticket through pkp intercity yesterday and have a question regarding the payment screen I encountered. When I entered my credit card info and hit the pay screen it asked “do you accept dcc currency conversion”. My options were yes or YEAH. No other options or way to exit screen. I picked yes, because I didn’t know what else to do. I am assuming the company converted it to Us dollars at an unfavorable rate, but not sure.

What should I have done, because I have several other tickets to buy in the upcoming days and want to be prepared next time.

I did not purchase any of my train tickets in advance. Train tickets in Poland are inexpensive. Buying during our trip allowed us to remain flexible. I used a credit card and likely was prompted to pick the local currency or USD. I always pick the local currency. We were there during COVID and we felt the 2nd class cars were too crowded so we started to buy 1st class tickets which were still inexpensive. Even then, we purchased just a few days in advance. A few times when I encountered an employee at the ticket counter that could speak English and was helpful, in those situations, I bought several days of tickets.

Jules, thanks. I just thought buying them online before leaving for our trip would be one less thing to focus on. We have all our hotels booked in advance so have a specific schedule that we will follow, so we won’t be flexible on dates.
I had no problem with the online booking until it came up with the option, or really no option to accept the currency exchange. I was just wondering if this was a one time glitch or if anyone else had experienced this as well.

Our hotels were all booked in advance, as well. We like to be flexible on time of day.

I'd be curious if you encounter the same questions and options when you return to the website.

I can’t get that far as a trial without giving them my card number - but I don’t remember that from my purchases last September. And I bought several sets of tickets. The YEAH sounds weird - like that isn’t a word any English speaker would use officially. Makes me wonder about translation.

I’m hoping it was just a bug. The site seems to be quite buggy and frustrating to navigate, but I finally got the tickets and seats we wanted. Until the weird currency thing I thought had had it all figured out. I will try again in a few days when tickets for our next journey open up. Luckily if it is charging a conversion fee it is a small one sine the tickets are not expensive. One more try won’t break the bank.

Hi, I just said No to the currency conversion question and it worked fine.

I bought tickets yesterday and it had to yes/no option. This morning it is back to the yes/yeah option. So very weird. By the way, I chose Yeah and it charged no conversion.

Now my biggest frustration is with trying to choose seats. It shows tons of available seats, but every one I pick it comes back with a session not found screen and I have to start all over and enter the entire thing again, dates stations and everything. I am about to need a wig because I am pulling my hair out with this website. I can only hope riding the trains is not as convoluted as buying the tickets.

It sounds like you have this figured out. It’s been about 5 years since we went to Poland. I purchased all our train tickets on the PKP intercity website. I remember it being buggy. I think I sometimes would switch the language to Polish if I was having troubles, and then used Google translate to help me navigate the site. I really don’t remember any details.

In case of any problems you can also buy the ticket in the train, but you have to say about it when you enter the train, to not pay a fine. This way of buying tickets is free of any additional costs when you start your travel at the station without cashier's desk or when it is closed, but when you start at a big station (as Szczecin Główny, Szczecin Dąbie, Stargard, Gdynia Główna, Toruń Główny, Bydgoszcz Główna, Piła Główna, Poznań Główny, Kutno, Łódź Kaliska, Łódź Fabryczna, Piotrków Trybunalski, Radom Główny, Puławy Miasto, Lublin Główny, Rzeszów Główny) then you have to pay for the ticket with a small additional fee.

I'm curious to know how to navigate on the pkp site. I choose the English option but when I choose "buy tickets" it reverts to Polish. I know Spanish and a bit of German, but Polish is Greek to me.

Maybe write an e-mail letter to the administrator of PKP website. It can not be in that way, to switch to Polish when you use its English language version.
