Train stops between Berlin and Warsaw

Hello all... I got some good advice on here a couple years ago when we went from Warsaw to Krakow, and now I'm back to seek out some more great advice!

I am in Berlin for a conference until the 27th of July and then have an event in Warsaw starting on the 1st of August.
We would prefer to leave Berlin the morning of the 28th and arrive in Warsaw the evening of the 31st so we can rest for the next day. This gives my wife and I three nights/three-and-a-half days in between to plot out where we could stop in between. We're looking to stay in interesting old towns where we can do lots of exploring on foot - we will be taking the train for all potential routes.

Idea 1: Three nights in Gdansk. We're aware that it's a six-hour train ride from Berlin to Gdansk, but is it too out of the way? Intrigued by the oodles of WW2/Solidarnosc history present in Gdansk.
Idea 2: Two nights in Poznan and one night in Torun
Idea 3: Two nights in Wroclaw and one night in Lodz
Idea 4: Three nights in either Poznan or Wroclaw

Thanks for any suggestions you might have!

(Just to add: We've got five days in Warsaw and then five days in Krakow, so the focus of this post is only on the three nights in between Berlin and Warsaw)

Poznań city centre/old town is a big bulding site at the moment so not looking its best. The renovation works are expected to continue until the end of the year.

Have you looked into what stops are practical traveling from Berlin to Warsaw?

From my understating Berlin to Gdansk (and other parts of Poland?) by train is a headache right now due to construction around Frankfurt an der Oder, so a part of this route is serviced by a bus. https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/germany/help-berlin-to-gdansk-tomorrow

I think Berlin to Wroclaw might work better? I'd pass on Poznan or Lodz and spend 3 nights in Wroclaw.

Thanks to all for your feedback so far.

Carlos - from what I've been reading, the direct train from Berlin to Gdansk would be running again before the summer begins (I believe it was mentioned that there would be restrictions until 21 April), so my assumption would be that there would be no issues in July. Please correct me if I interpreted that info the wrong way.

I think that all of your ideas are good, but if you have any doubt, you can modify it for example in one of these ways:

  1. one night in Poznań and two nights in Gdańsk (both of them are connected with Solidarność, Poznań very earlier than Gdańsk; you can look for the monument of Poznań 1956 near the Adam Mickiewicz University rectorate, the Music University and the Kaiser castle in the center of Poznań),
  2. two nights in Poznań and one night in Łowicz (with Polish folklore, you can also see the cathedral in its center and two museums near Łowicz - in Maurzyce and Sromów, but take also Arkadia and Nieborów into consideration; TAXI is on the main market square in Łowicz - near its southern wall),
  3. one night in Poznań, one night in Łęczyca (with the famous settlement and church from the Middle Ages in Tum near Łęczyca, TAXI is on Szpitalna street, near the church, just one minute from the old market square with the town hall, so to the west, the opposite direction than from the market square to the castle) and one night in Łódź.

Thanks for the response, plikows

We ended up deciding to do the three nights in Gdansk plan and have booked a direct train from Berlin to Gdansk, leaving next week. Our flight to Berlin is tomorrow and we'll stay for nine nights with day trips planned and then will spend 3 nights in Gdansk (including a half day trip to Sopot and taking in a couple of museums in Gdansk), then five in Warsaw and five in Krakow beforen moving on further south/west.

Thanks! You can think about other options next time. I have added information about Taxi in Łowicz to my previous description. As you have long time in Berlin, you can visit Szczecin (where I live), travelling by train (Deutsche Bahn). You can read about Szczecin on https://www.travellerspoint.com/guide/Szczecin/. Other options are among others Greifswald and Stralsund, also by DB train.
