Tour company -- small group guided

I am looking for a small-group tour company for a trip in Aug/September. We are interested in learning about the history and current culture. So many comments that I have found concerning tours are from persons looking for family. We are just wanting to learn and enjoy the country.

Below are 2 that come up in searches (Rick Steves is only waitlisted) --

1) Real Poland Tours and 2) Stay Poland.

--- Has anyone used either of these companies for their 12-day tours?

--- Any comments on guides (especially clarity of language), itineraries, food, lodging, etc

There is also a company in the US (PAT - Polish American Tours), but they seem to hire companies in Poland instead of run their own tours. Does anyone have experience with them?

All thoughts appreciated.

Sylvia. Yes we used StayPoland for such a tour. It was about 8 people (all Americans) in a small bus. The tour guide was an American living in Poland, so his English was as good as anyone's. It was about 10 years ago, so no telling if he's still there. Lodging was very nice. Food was good, although lots of pork. Itinerary was just what we were looking for. A good blend of sights and history., and they can do custom tours as well. They did everything from airport pickup to extra nights at hotels. No complaints.

A couple of points: communication is delayed because of the time zones. And at first, my junk mail filter was stopping email from Poland. The transaction is in Poland, so your bank might flag it.

I'd also throw in a company called Polish Origins which I've done business with, but not toured with.
