Tipping tour guides!

I have seen this question posted numerous times in the past but not lately. You might want to enter something like: "tipping tour guides" in the SEARCH box at the top of the page. I have been to Europe for 13 of the last 14 years but have never had the occasion to have a private personal tour guide. Happy travels.

We hired a private guide when we were in Nuremberg last month and we gave him a 20 Euro tip - which was a little less than 10%. I would say that you should tip whatever amount you're comfortable with.

I had a fabulous tour guide for 2 full-day trips in Tallinn--actually the owner of the company, and the second day it was just me and him; he knew I was a knitter and especially interested in Estonian textile arts so took me to a wonderful craft co-op in Haapsalu and waited patiently while I spent 45 minutes selecting yarn, patterns and mittens--offering thoughtful opinions which helped a lot. I tipped 20 euro both days.
