Ahoy fellow hiker! You’re going to love Zakopane! I spent 3 nights there last month, early October and was enchanted. The alpine architecture, nature, trees, mountains and delicious cuisine added up to an incredible opportunity to connect with the culture and get off the museum, church, point of interest hamster wheel trips can start to become.
I’m not familiar with Murowanac. Regardless, I would highly recommend Chocholowska for the single reason of the opportunity to avail yourself of the spa there after a good hike. After hiking the 12 mile out and back to Morskie Oko in the Tatras out of Zakopane, I needed a spa day. The natural hot springs waters at Chocholowska Baths were a treat (Chocholowskietermy.pl). I had a 30 minute herbal bath soak, 30 minute salt scrub followed by a 60 minute massage in lux facilities for under $80. Or you can drop in for a soak in the public pools, saunas and steam rooms for about $15.
In Zakopane, I stayed at Pensjonat I Domki Javorina in an adorable chalet room with an excellent breakfast for around $60/night. Their website is Javorina.pl. Though you may need to use google translate. Or call them, they speak excellent English. The restaurant downstairs (also Javorina) is excellent as is Karczma Zabi Dwor just down the street. Javorina is located a 13 minute walk from the heart of Krupowki Street (pedestrian zone) so it’s quiet and you can see the stars at night but still close to everything.
It was my first time to Poland. Zakopane really stood out for me in a country that I can’t wait to go back to. Enjoy!
