stay in Sopot or Gdansk?

Will be in Tri cities area end of September. Wondering if it would be best to stay in Sopot or Gdansk. Like the idea of a smaller town and wonder if Sopot would be quieter at this time of the year than Gdansk. Seem so easy to go from one town to the other.
If Sopot..any suggested places to stay.
Thank you

We loved staying in Gdańsk a few Septembers ago -lovely town with much to see and do. Just walking around the streets was so enjoyable. We took train to Sopot which was nice, but seemed like mostly a seaside resort. Gdańsk never seemed too noisy.

Having just returned from visiting both Sopot and Gdansk, I would opt for staying in Gdansk. We used the train to visit Sopot for the afternoon. The main street Montecassino was lovely with many shops and cafes...don't miss Wojtek!!! The walk on the wooden pier was lovely as well. I hesitate to say there's not much else do in Sopot other than this, but I ask others to chime in. We did visit the Grand hotel and beach. Gdansk is larger but very navigable on foot with much more to see and do including a number of stunning streets, churches and museums. Also, you can easily travel to Sopot, Westerplatte and/or Hel via boat or train from Gdansk as well.

We stayed at the Admiral Hotel as part of the RS Poland Tour. Very comfortable...great breakfast and a handful for steps away from the Fish market area. Very very conveniently located with easy access to the river.. I highly recommended it !!!

Thanks Vicjoy1945
When did you stay there? I thought the reviews were ok but most were older reviews.

Nigel - I stayed at Hotel Admiral the first week of April [2024] - it was clean and comfortable, had an amazing breakfast, and a great location, as Vic mentions above.

Hey Nigel !

I was there this past July 2024 on the RS tour. We booked several day ahead of the actual tour and we were able to stay in the same room.
