Skiing and public transport in Poland

My friend and I are looking for a place to ski in Poland this december. We'll be travelling by train and don't have drivers licenses, so we need somewhere that has good public transport. Does anyone have any suggestions? We're on a budget, so we'd prefer for it to be not too expensive, but we don't need many luxuries (like swimming pools and spa's) either.

Thanks very much!

I haven't been there myself, but Zakopane is the "Aspen" of Poland (but without the Aspen prices). There are direct trains from Warsaw and Krakow.

Look at Wisła, this is where many normal Polish families now go for their winter holidays. Wisła is where even the president of Poland has his official winter castle residence. Zakopane these days is well discovered and overrun by foreign tourists, thus the prices have been raised to reflect the new international clientele.

Hi,
Sadly to say it, but skiing in Poland isn't fun, as slopes are short and you have lot of people usually with a small skiing culture (e.g. stoping in the middle of the slope and walking on your skis while waiting in big queues for ski lifts).

But if you wish to experience skiing in Poland - then it might be worth to check Kotelnica Ski Resort in Białka Tatrzańska.
I was learning how to ski there :) around 10 yrs ago. It has many blue ski slopes, good and modern lifts.
Are you a good skiers? Will it be good enough for you?

Zakopane is very expensive in terms of accommodation. Local mountaineers are just looking to fleece you. A ski pass allows you to ski down a total of 48 km of trails, but they are not connected, and the ski bus connection doesn't seem to exist.

Sorry to say it, but It's much better to go to Italy to ski.
After I've learned how to ski in Białka Tatrzańska and in Czech Republic, I am only going there.

Best,
Tomasz

When I was in Madonna di Campiglio a few years ago, I noticed they were promoting "Polish Week" coming up. Polish rock bands, Polish DJ's, Polish beer all over town.

My friend has been skiing for quite some time, but I've never done it before, so I don't think short slopes will be a problem :)
But because I've never done it before I have no idea if I'll like it, so I want to try it in Poland because it's so much cheaper. That way it's less of a waste if I don't like it.

Thanks for all your advice by the way!

You may try Szczyrk mountain resort in the Silesian Beskidy Mountains. It's close to Katowice Airport. Less crowded and less pricey than Zakopane.

If you're going to travel by public transportation, consider Białka Tatrzańska. You land in Kraków airport, get a bus to the city center and from there (Kraków Main Bus Station) it's very easy to get to Białka Tatrzańska by bus.

Or Rabka-Zdrój, also very close to Kraków and reachable by bus.

There are quite a few options :)
