Side Trip from Poland 10 Day Tour 2026

Hi,
My sisters and I and our husbands would like to do what we are calling a "Heritage Tour". We would like to book the Poland Tour for the Summer of 2026 but leave the tour group at Krakow (which I believe is the end of the tour), and then journey bt ourselves to two cities in Slovakia, and then ending in Prague. My husband and I have traveled by ourselves in Italy and we are comfortable figuring out the trains etc.

1) Is it possible to do this?
2) Would we book a one way ticket to Gdansk (beginning of tour) and then book our own flight home from Prague?
3) How might all this affect the tour price?

Thank you,
Diane

Diane, welcome. The RS tours dont include airfare so you have to book and pay your airfare yourself anyway. You can fly in to Gdansk and out of Prague (that makes sense) but you can book it as a multi-city (aka open jaw) ticket and it is likely less expensive than two one way tickets.

RS tours start at your first hotel and end at your last hotel. So its up to you to get there, and you're on your own at the end.

By Slovakia, you mean deep into Slovakia and not just Bratislava. If so, you might find it easier to go from Slovakia to Budapest and then fly to Prague from Budapest. There are discount direct flights a few times a week. Of course skipping over Vienna is hard to do.

Sure. I took the 14-day Eastern Europe tour in 2022, and a couple left halfway through it.

Yes, on question two. Members of Rick Steves tours are responsible for booking their own plane tickets. I have flown open jaws style -- arriving in one city, departing from another -- for some 20 years.

You don't receive a refund for the portions of a tour you don't go on.

I visited Levoca, Slovakia, a beautiful town.
