So I've seen a few videos online that look exceptionally challenging but I noticed some comments on those videos stating that the mine has a "new modern elevator".
Has anyone been recently? Is it the old gated 2 level elevator still, or is there something that has since replaced it?
I don't think I can handle the old style one so I'm just trying to research as best I can to decide if I should add it to my itinerary.
We recently went there. Are you referring to the elevator for exiting the mine? Yes, it is a modern elevator. It is a long walk from the tour to the elevator.
Yes, I saw they have the elevator for limited mobility people where you dont see the entire site, just what's easily accessible from the elevator. I assume it would be the same one for both trips.
I saw on some of those videos that most of the elevator ride is in darkness. I'm hoping that is also no longer the case?
I just took this elevator a few days ago and there was nothing old or dark about it. It was extremely fast and very modern. They do squish quite a few people at a time in there at once though but that's the only thing I can remark on it. Hope that helps!
Your post brought back memories I can now laugh at. I took that elevator in 2002 and it was frightening and crazy. I’ll never forget how it got stuck after it moved about 2 feet down and the operator got on the wind up phone (on a fabric cord) and screamed into. Quickly it dropped and the entire ride was pitch black. I went immediately to the gift shop bar in the mine and had a double shot of vodka.
Oh my! That's quite the adventure. Glad the elevator is better now.
