Safety in Poland in June?

I want to do a tour in June to Poland, any insights into the War zones and political climate since now more countries are increasing the weaponry and so on, with China, etc. I am assuming the tour would not take place if things are more dangerous. I would love to go and support the country, tourism but not add to their troubles. Any thoughts, seems like people are really enjoying the tours, etc. Thanks in advance of booking...

Hi, I travelled to Poland in early April 2022, when the Russo-Ukrainian War was arguably at it's hottest point, I observed that there was no military presence, no shortages of food or supplies, shops and restaurants bustling, but most hotels were half empty. Everything was business as usual, there were no refugee camps, soup kitchens, lines of people etc. This is an erroneous image I think some media can't help but project.

At the time there was lots of domestic tourism but little foreigner tourism, which is very unfortunate. I travelled from Wrocław to Krakow and I did not encounter many Ukrainian refugees, maybe 2-3 families at one time and a number of the Uber/Taxi drivers were Ukrainian however. Poland had done an excellent job integrating Ukrainian refugees into their society and many are actually returning to Ukraine now that the situation is safer in most of wester/central Ukraine.

In short: Poland does not feel like a warzone, it is currently safe to travel there, you are not negatively impacting the refugee situation, there are no shortages of food/supplies. By supporting the Polish tourism economy you are helping prop up a number of seasonal jobs that Ukrainians can work in. You will be part of the solution do not feel guilty or worried about going to Poland, you will have a great time!

That's great Shelly! If ever there was a time to do good through tourism, traveling to Poland now or in the near future is a great opportunity, low risk but highly rewarding. One doesn't even have to volunteer just spend your money locally.

I'm also planning to revisit Poland this summer :-)

One can simply take the train from Berlin Hbf to Frankfurt an der Oder, then walk across the bridge as a day trip and you're in Poland. Likewise from Küstrin-Kietz , which I did in 2017

Hi Fred, I don't think the OP is going to Germany :)

In April, I plan to start in Budapest and work my way north to Poland and then through the Baltic states to Finland.

I'm not worried.

Had family friends who did an Eastern European tour late recently. According to them, apart from the Ukrainian flags flying everywhere and more Ukrainians in the cities-there was no other signs of war. Life is going on as normal. If American news would actually show where the fighting in Ukraine is taking place, it would show that it's far from the Polish border. I'd say go and have a good time.

Poland is the front line of NATO. If the war reaches there, then all of NATO (that means the US and Canada) are at war too.

I've been to Krakow and other parts of Poland three times in the last year and am going again in June as well. No signs of war besides besides many Ukrainian flags and refugees from the Ukraine, which, unless you speak Polish and/or Ukrainian, you won't realize it.

We are in Poland now and staying with a friend in Łodź. Absolutely no safety concerns or issues here. This is our third trip here, and it is no different than in past years. Please come and visit. It is a beautiful country and beautiful people.

I hope you're booked. We were there in late May and headed southeast from Kraków to see my family's ancestral villages. Will corroborate what others posters said:

No travel warnings

No dissuasion from reputable travel resources, tour companies, our driver/translator nor anyone encountered from Frankfurt through Prague.

From Kraków, Auschwitz, Nowy Żmigród and points in between, no departure from normal traffic, business openings, etc. Some Ukrainian flags and messages of support

Things appear more improved travel business-wise in Poland post-COVID and start of Ukrainian war last year.

I'm biased (mom's side all Polish), but I'll surmise Poland would love to have you. "Guest in the house, God in the house" goes one of their sayings.

Just got back from Gdansk, Olsztyn, and Warsaw Poland. Never felt the least bit safe.

Edit: Never felt the least bit unsafe. 😬

If we listen to You-Know-Who's threats, we shouldn't feel safe in the US or UK either.

For context, Ukraine east to west is almost exactly the same as Texas east to west. The war is in Houston, Galveston and down the coast to the Mexican border.

Poland is New Mexico, and while there are some missile attacks south of the New Mexico border, to date I only have heard of two missiles falling on the wrong side of the border.

If I wanted to be overly cautious I would worry more about Kosovo, Moldova and Estonia (despite it being NATO).

However your concern is natural and because of your concern that you might add to the problem, possibly someone who might want to help: https://u24.gov.ua/

I also just returned from Poland, solo woman traveler. Didn't feel unsafe at any point. The only thing I noticed was quite a few people with Ukrainian passports on my return flight from Warsaw to Frankfurt. I was curious about where they were headed but didn't want to bother them.
