We arrive in Krakow August 19 for 5 nights. Planning a visit to Auschwitz for either Friday or Saturday that week. There are tickets available, but trying to figure timing with a bus schedule.
Anyone have the link for the bus schedule? Is it possible to reserve a specific bus? (My RS book is dated so may not reflect accurate information for 2026)
Since the tickets are timed, are they flexible if you arrive early or late?

As a Holocaust/Genocide Studies educator I have visited Auschwitz-Birkenau 2X. I had much prior knowledge of these camps, but I also learned so much more. I did travel with Holocaust groups. None of us (with various familiarity/knowledge) were prepared for the nearly overwhelming emotional toll the authentic sites inflicted on us. (I have also visited & studied in 3 other death camps in Poland & in numerous Concentration camps.)
That written, I strongly suggest you book a tour from Krakow (one of my favorite Euro cities)..
This would solve your transport, tix, & probably give you a proper tour with info and protection.
I say protection as these 2 camps contain memories, documentation, & evidence of astounding evil.
You say "we", but don't state adults or children. As a long time Holocaust educator experienced in school & in these camps, I implore you not to take any young children or even mid-teens here. Personally, if I had a chance to take my 10-11-12 graders here, I wouldn't.
in Krakow take FlixBus that will drop you off at the death camp (1h 45m).

I'll be there in September. It seems easy enough to do train or bus. Make sure you arrive at the museum at least 30 minutes before your ticket time. If you take the train, factor the walk/taxi from station to the museum. The buses drop you at Auschwitz museum.

Joy, thanks for the link. Looks easy enough. How many hours should we allow between arrival and departure back to Krakow? I’d rather not be rushed. If we are ready to leave earlier can we use later ticket on an earlier bus, or change reservation?
Is the museum and Auschwitz I the same thing? Does the reservation with 3hr 45 minute tour for 150zl include the museum also. Or is the museum somthing to pursue in our own after the tour (assuming tour also includes Birkenau. Or do we need a separate museum ticket, which I’m not finding?
I think bus tickets are timed. I havent visited yet.
I may take train back and will buy ticket on spot, easier as not tied to specific time bought in advance.
Auschwitz is now a museum, so same thing.
Thanks for all the info and have the bus tickets and tour booked on the day we wanted. My husband initially said he didn’t want to go. But told him Rick said “ no one regrets that they visited Auschwitz”
