We just returned from a 15-day tour of Poland (a few days in Berlin). My father escaped from Poland after World War 2 (he was fleeing the Soviets because he was in the Polish Resistance during the war) and I knew very little about his story or his family. I contacted Tomasz Laskowski, owner of Poznan Tours, and he did an amazing job finding and contacting my many cousins and my uncle, arranging meetings with them and also putting together a comprehensive travel itinerary of the highlights of Poland. He met us at the airport in Berlin and he was our personal guide for three days in Berlin and Potsdam and 15 days in Poland. Tomasz is very conscientious, organized and always considerate of our needs and desires. There were a few changes that had to be made (an unexpected discovery of another family member who wanted to meet me, forecast of flooding in Wroclaw and a couple changes of accommodations due to these circumstances) and Tomasz was always thinking ahead and made certain that everything ran smoothly. He is also a really nice guy with a great sense of humor and a serious passion for good coffee! Our itinerary in Poland included Szczecin, Gdansk (Tri-city area), Malbork, Chelmno, Torun, Warsaw, Krakow, Swidnica, Lower Silesia area and Poznan.
In addition to Ancestry Tours, Tomasz also offers tours of Berlin, his hometown of Poznan, a charming city (not very well known to Americans), and other cities in Poland.
If anyone is searching for information on their Polish heritage, Tomasz can provide a customized experience in Poland for a very reasonable price.
What a great trip! It sounds so very, very nice to be able to connect with family members and learn more about your father and his story. How rewarding that trip must have been and how fortunate to have a guide who went well beyond the call of duty to help you find family and places to visit. Thanks for sharing your experience... hopefully it will be of benefit to others searching for their family roots in Poland.
