Polish "Monoprix" and other regular shopping question

Greetings from Warsaw!

Is there a particular place or chain store where I could pick up regular (meaning not-massively expensive) cosmetics and moisturizer? Also, I think I am going to need to buy a sweater and warmer pair of shoes (I checked the forecast when I was packing, but after sweltering in Poland last summer I couldn't quite bring myself to believe it)? The RS guide mentions high-end shopping areas, but I don't need anything fancy or too expensive. I remember from my trip last year noticing how many shops there were in the central train station. Would that be a good place to look?

Thanks!
Caroline

Caroline, I remember seeing an H&M there near the train station, but there are likely many other department store choices. near the main drag. Ask your hotel or a friendly local.

Try the Złote Tarasy, although it's a major shopping mall. They have a Carrefour Market inside, and Clarks and Eccho (shoes) and tons of beauty stores. I'm sure a lot of cosmetics and other things you'll find there are standard global brands. Nivea is a global brand but still makes good products like moisturizer.

Also, just look inside any independent stores while you're walking around, including pharmacies, for Polish brands. All imported cosmetics are probably going to be more expensive than local brands. Clothing is generally more expensive in Europe than the US, even in Poland. Good luck!
