Hi, I will be traveling with a group of 10 in April to Krakow, Poland. We prefer to self-drive from Krakow to Prague, but we are having a lot of trouble finding vehicles. We are happy to get more than one vehicle to accommodate the group but after researching it seems that prices advertised may not be accurate as extra fees and taxes can be added on. I also tried working with a travel agent but she said she couldnt find any options where we could pick the vehicle up in Krakow and drop it in Prague. Any suggestions??? Thank you!
Charter a van. I looked at daytrip.com. for 10 people about 140 euros a person. Bound to be cheaper.
The problem with auto rentals for a group of 10 is that you’d most likely need 3 vehicles. Though some larger choices can seat 5, luggage storage is minimal, usually about two bags. Couple that with very high 2nd country drop-off fees, I would be surprised if that trip would cost less than $1,000 per person.
Chartering a van with a driver might be a more economical option but train or bus will be the most realistic and affordable means of transportation.
Personally, I would fly, but that wasnt the question.
We took a train in the opposite direction- Prague to Krakow. Easy peasy and cheap. It was $75 first class for two seniors two years ago.
This might be an exciting option, PKP Intercity are introducing a new sleeper train called the EN Carpatia.
You can either go from Poland to Munich, or after entering the Czech Republic at Bohumín, the train splits into two sections. One going south through Bratislava and Budapest, while the other heads west through Vienna, Linz, and Salzburg before reaching Munich. I'm planning on doing this in February 2026.
shane, good option but maybe not to Prague, but to Budapest yes. I like it. But I tried to check the prices and I guess that they are not published yet?
Looks like they are trying to serve those traveling to and from Ukraine ... as well as others. Doesnt surprise me as the trains Kyiv to Budapest are full up most of the time.
