Poland to keep borders closed for foreigners until June 12

Thought I would share this bit of news, as I know many have trips planned for Poland:

Poland will extend its strict border controls until June 12 due to the coronavirus pandemic, its Interior Ministry said on Wednesday. Poland closed its borders to foreigners in March to stop the spread of the coronavirus and has extended the restriction four times since then. Polish citizens, diplomats, foreigners with the legal right to live in Poland and foreign professional drivers can enter Poland at selected checkpoints.

While keeping borders closed, Poland is easing some other curbs imposed earlier. It has reopened shopping malls, hotels, outdoor playgrounds and allowed kindergartens to restart. The government is expected to announce on Wednesday the lifting of further restrictions on schools, restaurants and hairdressers.

Poland now has 17,062 confirmed coronavirus cases and 847 deaths. On Tuesday, the country saw its largest spike in new coronavirus cases in one day due to a rapid growth in infections among coal miners.

Not much other info I could find on the web.

If you are interested, there is more info in this article https://translate.google.pl/translate?hl=pl&sl=auto&tl=en&u=https%3A%2F%2Fpodroze.gazeta.pl%2Fpodroze%2F7%2C173955%2C25945230%2Cwakacje-w-polsce-beda-w-tym-roku-inne-co-sie-zmieni-czego.html

The government already announced that the requirement to wear face coverings is likely to be dropped within the next one or two weeks. Many Poles stopped wearing them some time ago anyway. There are also going to be more Intercity trains to the mountains and seaside from next weekend (Pendolino service is being restarted).

There is talk about opening borders for summer tourism within the Visegrad Group and the Baltic States without the need for quarantine or any PCR/antibodies tests but this is still being discussed.

The recent coronavirus outbreak among coal miners and their families does not seem very serious- over 90% are asymptomatic.
