LOT Airlines Experience with Luggage

Hi all- this July will be my first time flying LOT airlines. I have a question about luggage and LOT for those with experience. I am a light packer and never check my luggage, usually fly United, British Airways, and Alaska- have never needed to check-in my carry-on or backpack. However, it looks like it will be unavoidable with my trips on LOT on smaller planes (Embraer 175 & 190), despite having a higher fare class. So, my question is- if you've flown LOT, is luggage checking pretty reliable on flights with connections? I avoid checking luggage like the plague, so I am nervous. Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks!

More than likely, if you are connecting from a flight with a larger plane and have a
carry-on that may not fit on the internal Europe flight, the bag will get tagged and
gate-checked, and you will retrieve it at the plane after landing, not at main
baggage claim.

So just take the carry-on with you and inquire at the check-in desk for the connecting
flight.

When checking bags that have to be transferred to a connecting flight overseas, pick only flights with at least a 2 hour layover. I once worked lost baggage claims at O'Hare for Virgin Atlantic. Most baggage is lost due to passenger checking in late or short layover between connecting flights. The passenger makes the flight but the bag doesn't. When a plane departs a telex is sent to the destination airport about the bags that did not make it

I flew LOT last week on a regional flight. I decided to check my bag. No problem but I didn't have a connection.

However, the flight was full and they were having many people check their carry on's anyway.

But I agree you should try to bring it to the gate. At worst, they'll gate check it.

No trouble flying within Europe. And I always check a bag. The only trouble I have had was the time I booked through United, flew to Newark arriving late, and for my flight With LOT to Warsaw I had to get a new boarding pass and they had to also move my luggage into their system. Because my first (United) flight was delayed and I barely made the LOT flight, they accidentally only got one of my suitcases into their system. So one went with me and one didn’t. But they sent it the next day. (I almost never have 2 suitcases but was actually mailing one to someone once I arrived in Gdansk.) Otherwise no trouble.
