I will be in Krakow in December. Following that, I will travel to Budapest. Both trips are to look at Christmas Markets. I wish to buy a wooden chess set for my grandson for Christmas. Nothing ornate, just a nice locally carved set. Anyone know where I would have the best luck finding this?

My guess would be Krakow. There is a big handicraft fair in old town square during the holiday season.

In the main square of Krakow is the indoor cloth hall. This has a variety of vendors selling different wares. I just bought a chess set for my son there in May and he loves it. Handcrafted in Poland and very lovely. I'm sure you'll be able to find something at the same stall I did. They are available in a variety of colours and sizes. Good luck.

I bought a wonderful chess set in the Cloth Hall in Krakow. The pieces were the Poles vs the Germans.
