Krakow to Prague

We will be traveling from Krakow to Prague and would like to find the shortest and least expensive mode of transportation. Do you recommend train or plane?

If you find good flight price at www.skyscanner.com, that will be fastest.

Trains tickets are cheap to buy there or at https://www.cd.cz/eshop/. The fastest train is currently the afternoon departure that uses a bus for the first half (one connection) and would be a fine option. A direct overnight train is also available, but even with a private sleeper for two will not be your best night's sleep; some people hate them.

How to Look Up Train Schedules and Routes Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it.

Laura:

  1. As there are no direct flights, a change will be necessary. Given this, plus the need to get to/from the airport, go through security, wait, etc., a flight isn't necessarily a lot faster.

  2. The CD e-shop only sells one connection from Krakow to Prague. There are many other options. Polrail Service is a good site, as it shows all the options originating from Krakow.

I booked the Tiger Express bus/train, which is quite inexpensive. Travel is by bus to Ostrava, where a connection is made with the Regiojet train. For a few dollars more they'll pick you up at your hotel in Krakow and drop you at your hotel in Prague. (an option I took.)

I just received a tour brochure from a guide I have spoken to over the years, but never used. She put together a new tour from Budapest or Vienna or I think Prague, through Slovakia to Krakow. The information looks very, very professionally done and through my conversations over the years I suspect she will do a good job.

Since getting to Krakow isn't the easiest mission and since Slovakia is such a stunningly beautiful country (a real Back Door experience) I though there are those here that might be interested.

Unfortunately she hasn't got a website. But if you send me a PM I can forward her contact information and maybe email the e-brochure she sent me.

Go to czech-transport.com. We used them and it was fantastic - the most convenient and inexpensive way to go.

We just did this route last month! We did the www.cd.cz that everyone recommends. It was fabulous. Easy, quick, cheap. Even had wifi on the train portion. I loved it. Would totally do it again!
