We are going to leave Krakow and head for Frankfurt or Cologne. Party of 4 traveling in August. The trains just take too darn long for this part of our trip. We would rather drive. I am thinking of getting out of Poland to some point in Germany closest to Krakow to rent a car. Any ideas out there on how best to do this or any better ideas? Thanks this Forum has always helped me so much in the past!

Driving would take darn longer than a train, and you would have to solve the problem of getting the car back to Poland at the end, or paying a humungous surcharge.
Both Lufthansa and Ryanair flies from Krakow to Frankfurt. Eurowings fly to Düsseldorf (Near Cologne).
See here for a full list of destinations from Krakow airport: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Paul_II_International_Airport_Krak%C3%B3w%E2%80%93Balice#Airlines_and_destinations
Of course, the Ryanair flights go to Frankfurt Hahn, in the middle of nowhere, not Frankfurt Flughafen.
