Krakow Restaurants.

I'll be in Krakow for a few nights in September and wanted to get two or three good traditional Polish dinners. I've looked through Rick's recommendations and Trip Advisor. I thought I'd ask to see if someone had any recent first hand experience with a traditional polish restaurant in Krakow. Near Old Town would be nice but it doesn't necessarily have to be right around the square.
Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Tom

We enjoyed a very nice dinner at Mio'd Molina (There's supposed to be an accent mark over the o in Miod, but our computer updated itself and I can no longer make those characters.) Ulica Grodzka 40, very near the main square. A very interesting menu, with a mix of traditional Polish dishes and other European offerings. 4 other tour members joined us, and everyone was impressed.

I enjoyed two excellent dinners at the Black Duck in April 2024 [I was staying at the Wawel Hotel, which is attached]. Obviously duck is on the menu. Be sure to reserve ahead - several days for the weekend. A real find was Bar Grodzki - for lunch - a step above a milk bar - traditional food was good and an excellent value - friendly owner.

Agree with the recommendation for the Black Duck, adjacent to and affiliated with the Hotel Wawel. (The Black Duck is where hotel guests are served breakfast.). I enjoyed a meal with friends at the Black Duck earlier this month and agree it would be prudent to make reservations as far in advance as possible.

For an informal meal between the Hotel Wawel and the main market square of Old Town, there is the Taste of Poland. The restaurant occupies just a sliver of space (reminiscent of a narrow alleyway), but if you can squeeze in, you will find on offer a variety of pierogi (including sampler plates) and flavored vodkas.

We enjoyed Molam, a Thai restaurant. Book ahead or arrive early. It seems to be a popular neighborhood place, and about a 10 minute walk from the Rynek.

Kiełbaski z Niebieskiej Nyski - it's a blue food truck parked under an overpass where they roast kielbasa over open fire. Cash only. Get there right when they open to avoid a line. There's one small communal stand-up table nearby. I could barely speak while I was eating because the sausage was so tasty and demanded my full attention. One of my top food experiences in Poland.

Kogel Mogel, 12 Sienna. Very close to the main square. Delicious roast duck and other traditional Polish dishes.

For traditional food at low prices in a communist era atmosphere, look for a milk bar (or bar mleczny).
