I will be in Krakow in mid-April (5 nights) and would like to visit both the Salt Mine and Zalipie. Since they are in the same general direction I am wondering if I could coordinate the visits on a single day. The earliest Salt Mine tour in English is at 9:00; we'd likely take a bus there. I am considering arranging for a driver to meet us at the Salt Mine at noon, then going onward to Zalipie. (Google has the drive at about 1 1/4 hours, which is likely optimistic.) Does this sound like a workable plan?

We opted to visit Zalipie only for a day. Definitely have a driver/ guide take you. It would be difficult to reach different houses independently. We used Maciej , Poland Active. Maciej picked us up at our bnb in Krakow. He was knowledgable and took us to places we would never have found on our own. Yes I think it's doable. You probably won't spend too much time in Zalipie, beyond the pretty painted cottages, it's just your typical Polish agricultural village of a couple hundred people.

Thank you. We are now thinking we will rent a car for that day. It sounds like information is available in Zalipie to guide us to the painted houses in the area; hopefully we'll also be able to speak with someone at the Museum or Felicja Curylowa home. I think we'll reverse the plan, picking up the car at 8 and heading to Zalipie. Probably will try to be at Wieliczka for a 15:00 or 15:30 tour, which should allow us time to take a lunch break along the way.
