National trains are 11 PLN (~$3 US) about every 2 hours, and local trains are 6 PLN (~$1.65 US) about once an hour and take 28 minutes.

I have no idea what a taxi would cost, but the distance is almost 20 miles.

Hi,

In 2001 I took that route by train, very interesting riding through the former Upper Silesia.

Trains run every 10-40 minutes depending on the time of day http://rozklad-pkp.pl/en
Tickets for trains operated by Koleje Śląskie can be bought at http://kolejeslaskie.com/en/ (but it is not necessary) and cost 6PLN. Intercity trains are less frequent and more expensive https://www.intercity.pl/pl/

The whole GOP region (Upper Silesian Industrial Region) is on the jakdojade journey planner which is more comprehensive and includes also buses and trams. You only need to put in your departure and arrival address
https://jakdojade.pl/gop

Taxi is much more expensive, as far as I can see from local taxi companies websites, fares start from 100PLN

The Katowice station (Glowny) is in town. You can bet the infrastructure of the station is much more advanced, modern, up to date tech wise, than when I passed through there in 2001. Signs in at least three different languages, etc. ATMs are at the station.

ATM, just like any other country. Don't use currency exchanges.

Since we now know you are arriving at Katowice Airport, you can get a scheduled minivan transfer to Gliwice. It is advertised as 10 EUR. Website is:
http://www.tigerexpress.eu/en/
There is an ATM at the arrivals hall at the airport.

Somehow, I don't think you will have any problems finding one or two in Gliwice, but looking on google maps, I do see French, Italian (pizza), Asian, and McDonalds.

I suggest buying online as it's a Czech company and from the information on their website it does not seem to have a sales point in Pyrzowice (this is where Katowice airport is). Not sure if you can buy from the driver as FAQs only mention that possibility on the trains and in Poland the company does not run any trains. The stop location/map is in the link.
